Vampires & Slayers, the only magazine devoted
exclusively to the undead and those who would try to destroy them in film,
television and literature. Our first issue features include:

- The Two Faces of Dracula: Film historian George Turner looks back at
Bela Lugosi’s debut as Bram Stoker’s famous count in Universal’s 1931
Dracula, as well as the Spanish version shot simultaneously on the same
sets and utilizing the same script. Director George Melford beat Gus Van
Sant’s Psycho in the shot-for-shot remake sweepstakes, though Melford
scored considerably higher critically.

- The Making of Frank Langella’s Dracula: A 20th anniversary
look at John Badham’s adaptation of the stage play that introduced audiences
to a more sensual Dracula than any that had preceded him. Interviews with cast
and crew highlight this article.

- The History of Dark Shadows, Part 1: The first in our multi-part
critical and behind-the-scenes look at television’s only horror soap opera. We
take you through the creation of the series, exploring how producer Dan Curtis
reportedly came up with the idea for the show during a dream; detail the early
storylines that involved strange occurrences in the Collinwood mansion, look
at the impact that storylines involving ghosts and a Phoenix had on the
normally abysmal ratings, and see how the introduction of actor Jonathan Frid
as vampire Barnabas Collins begot a phenomenon.

- The Vampire Review: Our guide to the latest films, television shows,
videos and fiction pertaining to both vampires and slayers.
- The Kolchak Papers – "Cancellation!": Remember reporter Carl Kolchak
from The Night Stalker? Well, Kolchak’s back, and Vampires & Slayers
has got him in an all-new, fully authorized four-part novella that begins
in issue #1. This novella is written by Mark Dawidziak, who also penned the
original Kolchak novel, Grave Secrets.
- Interview with a Vampire: Forever Knight's Geraint Wyn Davies.
